Artist Statement
As a queer, non-binary artist, much of my work examines what it means to exist in this body in this time. I use art as a means to navigate my own experience; exploring my connection to masculinity, my body, trauma, rage, and dysphoria. I treat my own body as a medium, to the point of destruction and abstraction, building up and breaking down form to create something new. My works consider the body as a tool; of labor, violence, connection, trauma, capitalism, intimacy, and healing. Collage, pastel, video, silicone, and plaster sculptures are my methods to examine the body and the structures that oppress ours. Through the creation of surreal creatures and environments, I separate the body from its institutional constraints, using flesh and form as a means to connect beyond binaries and societal structures. With an often blunt and absurdist approach, I make anatomically and personally inspired pieces, ultimately playing with human form in an attempt to connect with humanity itself.
